There are professed freedom lovers who claim that President Donald Trump is as bad or worse than The Left. Such a claim is false.
As in my previous essays, The Left is Vastly More Evil than Religious Conservatives and its follow-up The Left is Still More Evil Than Religious Conservatives, I will present the evidence that establishes this conclusion. But first, I will state the issues on which I think Trump and the conservatives are mistaken, or, at least, where they are open to question.
Trump and The Conservatives’ Errors
One—abortion
There is no rational case that can be made during the first trimester (when most abortions are performed) that the fetus is yet a human being. That is a faith-based belief. A woman’s right to choose between abortion and motherhood must be upheld during this period.
Sadly, both sides in the abortion debate invoke the principle of “rights.” Anti-abortionists claim to uphold a “right to life.” Pro-choice advocates speak of a woman’s “right to abortion.” But neither side holds a rigorously defined theory of rights; in consequence, each side’s arguments are woefully weak. Two—deportation of non-violent illegal aliens
I support Trump 100 percent in the deportation of gang members and other violent criminals among illegal aliens.
As for migrants who work honestly and productively—who are neither violent criminals nor welfare recipients—the right thing to do in the Land of Opportunity is to offer them US residency and then citizenship, on the proviso that they study and demonstrate mastery of the nation’s history and of the individualistic principles on which it was founded.
Three—tariffs
As Ayn Rand observed in her essay The Roots of War:
“The essence of capitalism’s foreign policy is free trade—i.e., the abolition of trade barriers, of protective tariffs, of special privileges—the opening of the world’s trade routes to free international exchange and competition among the private citizens of all countries dealing directly with one another. During the nineteenth century, it was free trade that liberated the world, undercutting and wrecking the remnants of feudalism and the statist tyranny of absolute monarchies.”
Economics 101 demonstrates that tariffs, as a policy, are harmful.
Despite his praise for tariffs Trump seemingly is not committed to them as a policy but instead wields them as a tactic to push foreign governments into policies that are in American self-interest: whether to reduce or cut their tariffs; to deploy troops to Mexico’s northern border to interdict illegal immigration into the US; to oust China from control of Panama Canal operations’ and so forth.
The jury is out on the success rate of those policies—but they very well could prove beneficial.

To appreciate the great success of Trump’s second term so far, we need to recall a sad truth: In our day, there are only two parties that can control Congress and the Presidency—the Republicans and Democrats, the conservatives and leftists.
Where Trump is Superior to The Left
On a number of key issues, Trump’s policies are vastly better than those of The Left. For example:
Immigration & Border Security
President Trump has effectively sealed the southern border from illegal immigration. Federal agents are arresting and, in some cases, deporting a plethora of violent criminals.
We can compare policy results of the two major parties: One lets murderers in, the other boots innocents out. It’s obvious that neither policy is perfect but that one is vastly preferable to the other.
A government’s job is to protect the rights and the lives of its citizens—not to provide haven for anyone seeking to immigrate. Republican and Democrat policy on this issue is the difference between life and death.
Freedom of Speech
Freedom of speech is freedom of the mind and it is the single most important issue—always and everywhere. It includes the right to discuss, to debate, to seek and speak truth fearlessly, and to openly criticize government pronouncements and policies.
The Left, because it relentlessly opposes free speech, is repulsively and irredeemably evil. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island sought to criminalize denial of man-made warming; Joe Biden established a Disinformation Governance Board at Department of Homeland Security; the Twitter files revealed government agencies “coaching” social media platforms regarding who were and were not allowed to post; John Kerry stated that the First Amendment is a “major block” to prevent people from holding “wrong” beliefs; and so on.
The Left lusts to censor all who reject its orthodoxy. Trump, by contrast, supports Elon Musk who heroically transformed Twitter into a largely free speech platform. Given the importance of this issue, it alone is sufficient to establish Trump as vastly superior to The Left.
Racism
The Left hates whites and Jews. Critical Race Theory and Critical Whiteness Studies spew racial hatred of whites and permeate leftwing academia, these theories gave rise to “wokeness” and to racist DEI initiatives. I cover this in my book, American Racism.
Trump, on the other hand, stands for colorblind individualism, speaks out against wokeness, and seeks to end DEI practices in government employment, replacing race and gender as criteria of employment with competence. In truth, character matters always, and competence regarding one’s work. The Left rejects this rational principle; the conservatives generally embrace it.
Energy Regulation and Climate Change
As I show in my book, The Truth About Climate Change, research into the world’s leading astrophysicists who study the sun-climate connection provides a plethora of evidence supporting two conclusions: 1. Climate change is natural, not man-made 2. The warmer periods of the Earth’s natural climate cycle benefit earthly life; it is the colder periods that are baneful. The IPCC and other environmentalists/leftists deliberately ignore the most compelling evidence we have regarding climate change in order to spew a theory of pernicious human-caused warming, a theory that generates a relentless supply of false doomsday predictions and a ton of shrill hysteria. Baneful man-made warming is a lie. Period. The activities of the sun, the oscillations of Earth’s ocean currents, and other natural phenomena cause the ongoing climate cycle.
Leftists ignore a ton of evidence in order to ballyhoo their hysterical claims. They will reduce us—literally—to eating bugs in order to ameliorate a phony climate crisis. They are willing to kill countless human beings in poor nations and severely reduce living standards in rich ones in the name of a mythical crisis. Why? Because it enables them to seize control of the vital energy industry and to thereby hasten the replacement of capitalism by socialism/communism.”
The Trump administration’s policies are working to put an end to this madness.
Gender Nihilism and The Rejection of Objectivity and the Push into Totalitarianism
The Left claims it cannot define what a woman is—and a woman is anybody who feels like one.
In reality, it is easy to define what a woman is: She is an adult, female human being. Her gender, and a man’s, is established by biological fact, not by personal feeling; it is objective, not subjective.
The Left claims that gender is malleable, that a person—even a child—can choose his/her gender; that a man can be a woman if he feels like it, and he can properly use women’s bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, and he can compete in women’s sports. No semi-rational adult actually believes this insanity.
So, what is its purpose—and why preach it in elementary school? Because if The Left can confuse a child on gender, on an observational issue, an issue in which the biological facts are directly observable, then it can certainly confuse us regarding much more abstract issues, where the truth is not observationally apparent, and thinking is involved—regarding, for example, such intellectual claims as: War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Left seeks to obliterate objectivity, to enshrine subjectivity, so that the most powerful subjective entity on earth—the State—can dictate not just orders…but truth.
Leftists have transformed schools from an education into an indoctrination system. They have destroyed the US school system—and they did it deliberately. Trump and the conservatives, to their everlasting credit, repudiate this subjectivist torrent. In fighting the battle to protect women’s spaces and sports, they are actually fighting to protect observable facts as the basis of truth, that is, to protect objectivity…and to protect liberty against The Left’s unholy lust to push us into Communism.

I could go on with this accounting. But the truth is well-established: To anyone who legitimately supports freedom, Trump and his conservative allies are vastly superior to The Left.
